P1P2 Murderous Redcap over Mistmeadow Witch – I’m not a huge fan of UW in this format and I can always just pay 6 for the Procession.
P1P3 Raven’s Run over Medicine Runner and Boggart Arsonist – Definitely debatable and I really wanted to take Arsonist here but almost timed out.
P2P2 Ballynock Cohort over Scuzzback Marauders and Oracle of Nectars – The best card for my deck so far though we all know I’d love to take Scuzzback here.
P3P2 Belligerent Hatchling over Recumbent Bliss – This pick is very possibly wrong but I decided to move all in on the Liege and the Hatchling only makes that plan better. It’s probably still better to take Bliss but whatever.
This was definitely a weird draft. I started off wanting to be WR ended up going into WB in pack 2 and then back into near mono White in pack 3 splashing the Red stuff. If I had more White playables I might’ve seriously considered not playing Redcap but it wasn’t an option here. Yes Moonhold actually made the maindeck as a compliment to two Mimics Liege and Hatchling.
Round 1 I played against a good player with mono Red. Game 1 he threatened to make it quick with an early Conspired Giantbaiting but didn’t have much gas afterwards. I curved Mimic into Hatchling into Balefire Liege and the game ended shortly thereafter. Game 2 he got stuck on two lands and I played out two Hobgoblin Dragoons and Spectral Procession and beat him pretty handily from there.
Round 2 was against a mono Black player and game one I sort of went off with Battlegate Mimic and two Scourge of the Nobilis on it. This got him down to 5 and me to 44 before he ripped a Soul Reap to kill it. From here I just kept building my board and eventually overwhelmed him. Game 2 I got completely blown out as my opponent went off with Blowfly Infestation Scar Cultbrand Cinder and eventually Necroskitter to kill and steal my entire side. Game 2 I got him down to 4 while he was busy killing my Ballynock Cohort with Cankerous Thirst and my Liege with Gloomlance and then he started playing bombs like Demigod of Revenge and Necroskitter. I kept drawing lands and got crushed.
Until tomorrow…
