p1p4 Cohort over Sootwalkers Puppeteer Clique – I haven’t had much success with Clique and while I do have Liege for Sootwalkers I wanted the aggressive creature more.

p1p5 Manaforge Cinder – I could take Inkfathom Infiltrator here I guess and try to go Black.

This draft was pretty weird in that I committed to mono Red early considered switching to mono Black and then BR in pack 2 and then moved back into mono Red with a splash in pack 3 after getting Crag Puca late. By not playing Black I lost out on the Infiltrator (which was going to screw up the mana already) some Sickle Rippers and other random dudes. I splashed for Soul Reap and Torrent and I had the Manaforge Cinder to help with that.

Round 1 I played against UR and what seemed like the worst mana ever. He had both Wasp Lancer and Scourge of the Nobilis in the same deck and cast both in game 1. Cinder Pyromancer managed to go the distance. Game 2 my opponent stalled the ground at 8 life while I built up Shrewd Hatchling and activated it on all of his blockers.

Round 2 I got severely flooded game 1 against RW. Game 2 he played Figure of Destiny which I killed with Blast when he tried to make it a 4/4. I played a bunch of guys and eventually plowed through his Inquisitor’s Snares with Rattleblaze. Game 3 he mulled to five and I had a decent draw and took him out.

I split the finals.

Until tomorrow…

Nick
