P1p1 Resounding Thunder over Jund Charm/Feral Hydra: I prefer the flexibility of Thunder over the tricolor Charm and usually I would rather have a removal spell than Hydra. An efficient creature it may be but in the end its still just a big green dude and Thunder is good removal.
P1p2 Naya Charm over Bone Splinters/Realm Razer: Naya Charm is better than Razer and I would rather be in Naya than Jund after passing a Jund Charm.
P1p4 Savage lands over Wild Nacatl: Despite being more Naya at this point I still value good manafixing highly and I certainly could go into Jund (which of course is what ends up happening). Even in straight Naya this pick is close and it was too early to tell here.
P2p3 Thrinax is just the most powerful card here.
Round 1
I play against a friend of mine who drafted the kind of deck I want to draft Esper with multiple Courier’s Capsule Obelisks removal and a Kederekt Leviathan. Both games he uses his removal suite (Infest Oblivion Ring Agony Warp) to slow me down enough that his card draw and eventually Leviathan give him an insurmountable advantage.
Until tomorrow…
