Friday, January 9th – Canadian maestro Rich Hoaen has downed tools for good, as work and real life intrudes apace. P1p1 Again with the passing Violent Ultimatum but this time the pick isn’t particularly close.
P1p6 Drake and Viscera Dragger both are tempting but this early it should be easy to pick up cards that work with the Drake.
P2p4 Scourglass can be quite good but Agony Warp is generally easier to cast and more reliable.
P3p2 With the Vein Drinker (and Crumbling Necropolis) I figure Skeletonize is sufficiently castable to pass up the Sculler and better than Vithian Stinger on the splash.

Round 1 versus Bant
G1 My utility guys did their job as Fatestitcher and Conjurer held him off while Grixis Battlemage drew me into an unanswered Vein Drinker.
G2 Puppet Conjurer teamed up with Fleshbag Marauder to kill his Rhox War Monk and that actually ended up being the only sizable threat he played. Granted the game didn’t last very long as I had Vein Drinker again.

Round 2 versus straight Black-Red (from what I saw)
G1 Oddly enough my opponent missed his second land drop yet I was sure I was losing by about turn 4. I had kept a land heavy hand with a Yoked Plowbeast as its biggest threat and his turn 1 play was Executioner’s Capsule. When I drew a bunch of land in a row it seemed inevitable that my opponent would draw a land then I would be vastly behind in cards. That is exactly what happened and although the game lasted a while longer the lack of spells left me mostly treading water.
G2 This time both of our decks performed better although his double Bone Splinters plus double Dragon Fodder made short work of me.

Until Monday…
