Daily Digest: Where Are All The Rhinos?

Siege Rhino has been the way to go lately, but how much more consistency do you get with two colors instead of three? GerryT investigates prior to #SCGWOR!

A couple weeks ago, we took a look at B/W Control, and now I’ve got another take, and this time it has creatures! With Soldier of the Pantheon; Brimaz,
King of Oreskos; and Wingmate Roc, this deck is actually able to pressure its opponents rather than rely on killing everything, although that deck also had
Elspeth, Sun’s Champion to fall back on.

In a format as proactive as this one, it’s important to keep in mind that you can’t deal with everything. From Jeskai Ascendancy to Ashcloud Phoenix to
Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker, there isn’t a removal spell that deals with everything except for the incredibly fragile Banishing Light or the expensive Utter
End. Because of that, you’re typically better off trying to win the game on your own rather than hoping you can completely stop your opponent from
executing their gameplan. On top of that, there are also powerful burn spells like Stoke the Flames and Jeskai Charm that don’t care about your removal.

Is two colors the way to do things? Obviously missing out on Siege Rhino is a big deal, especially since a similar Abzan deck just won the Pro Tour, are we
really better off playing a weirdo deck like this rather than playing it safe and play something that’s proven?
