Rookie of the Year Jared Boettcher took U/W Heroic to a 9th place finish at Pro Tour Journey Into Nyx, but that’s about all we’ve heard from the archetype.
It’s no surprise to see a high finishing Block decklist make its way into Standard, and we’ve finally had that happen.
Yochii’s deck is a fairly direct port of Jared’s deck, although it’s gained an additional card in Battle Mastery. Being able to grant double strike should
not be overlooked, as Fabled Hero is already one of the most powerful cards in the deck. Turning something like an Akroan Skyguard into a double striker is
going to get you some quick wins.
It’s a bit of a surprise to see only two Hero of Iroas and the complete lack of Flooded Strands, but it was early on in the format, so maybe the Flooded
Strands were difficult to acquire. Instead of Hero of Iroas, Yochii subbed in the aforementioned Akroan Skyguard, which doesn’t seem all that bad. The deck
plays things like Stratus Walk and Gods Willing to get its creatures through, so having flying frontloaded on a heroic creature is probably pretty nice.
Will this deck show up at Pro Tour Khans of Tarkir this weekend or is it a relic of the past?
