I’ve seen a lot of crazy Boros decks in the Modern Daily Events, but this one is probably the strangest. It’s got a little bit of prowess action to go with some Pyroclasms, a Blood Moon theme, and even some Tormenting Voices. What’s going on here?
Well, this deck is operating under the assumption that Pyroclasm and Blood Moon are potent enough to be maindeckable, at least if they’re one-sided. Pyroclasm doesn’t kill any of this deck’s creatures and works especially well with Boros Reckoner. Path to Exile is nowhere to be found because of the non-bo with Blood Moon. Any burn spell plus a Relic of Progenitus will kill a Tarmogoyf anyway.
Mishra’s Bauble works well with prowess and allows the deck to operate with a scant 22 lands. Tormenting Voice and Temple of Triumph do their best to help you sift through your deck and find the right cards. A couple planeswalkers appear at the top end to give you a little bit of presence in the lategame. The sideboard has some crazy cards but still does a good job at being effective against the plethora of decks in Modern.
We’ve seen similar Boros decks do well in the past, so it’s only a matter of time before a consensus best list emerges.
