Daily Digest: Spirit Burn

It seems like sweet new R/W decks are popping up everywhere! Don’t be surprised if this one pops up on top of the $5,000 Modern Premier IQ at #SCGMINN!

“Lava Spike you, trigger my Tallowisp…”

I’m not sure those words have ever been spoken before now.

At its core, this is a burn deck. Most good burn decks have a consistent clock that takes away the pressure of assembling twenty points of hard burn, lest
you risk losing to mana flood or them gaining some life somehow. This deck pushes it a little further by using things like Tallowisp to find cards like
Spirit Mantle and Angelic Destiny, which can sneak in the last few points of damage.

Eidolon of the Great Revel is a great card, capable of beating combo decks all on its own. Figure of Destiny is frequently underrated and makes a great
target for Scourge of the Nobilis. Mirran Crusader is a fantastic choice in a metagame full of Birthing Pod and B/G/X decks.

One of the things that might actually be awesome is Shining Shoal, especially since burn decks have gotten a lot more popular lately. Even if you don’t
play this deck, you might want to consider Shining Shoal for Modern.
