Despite finishing in the Top 4 of Pro Tour Khans of Tarkir, Mike Sigrist’s Aggro Abzan deck didn’t stick around long. Perhaps part of that had to do with the fact that even Sigrist himself was underwhelmed with his deck.
This weekend, the deck made somewhat of a comeback. Andrew Tenjum gave his Invitational list to Thea Steele for the first two-day Standard Open, and the pair finished ninth and tenth with nearly identical lists.
Quad Anafenza, the Foremost goes a long way toward fighting Whip of Erebos decks. The Back to Natures in the sideboard do a lot of work also. Bile Blight helps the Jeskai Tokens matchups and makes W/U Heroic even easier. The trick to fighting Heroic with Abzan was to put them on a clock before killing stuff, and this deck does a great job of that.
