I’m not sure what it’s going to take for people to live in constant fear of red decks, but until then, red decks are going to keep winning tournaments.
Monastery Swiftspear is a good card people!
Perhaps Brian DeMars took down the tournament with Atarka Red because people tested against the stock lists and determined that they weren’t very good.
DeMars was not playing a stock deck though.
Instead of burning people out with Exquisite Firecraft or going wide with Hordeling Outburst, his deck contains the one-two punch of Temur Battle Rage and
Become Immense. Over the course of the weekend, I highly doubt people saw that coming. Consider this your public service announcement!
Arashin Cleric is fine against their normal beatdown draws, but it doesn’t do any good against Blood Lust + Berserk combo. Perhaps you should consider
playing some extra removal instead.
Either way, since this deck took down the first Open Series of the event, you can expect it to be pretty popular. Red is far from dead.
