Daily Digest: Not Of This World

With Grand Prix New Jersey only days away, you could settle on a tried and true brew that’s a bit terrestrial. Or, you could take a deck to battle that may be from somewhere else entirely…

You might call this a budget deck just because it doesn’t feature a highly expensive manabase like most Legacy decks, but this deck keeps it simple and I
like that. You have two options: Make a 20/20 Gerry Thompson token or put a fatty into play from your graveyard that wins you the game, depending on who
your opponent is.

Since we aren’t splashing like most Legacy decks, the ways to protect our creatures are limited. However, we aren’t without options. Not of This World is
perfect for protecting Griselbrand and Marit Lages. We don’t have the luxury of using something like Force of Will to use defensively or to help resolve
either of our combos, but are they really going to fight over something like Vampire Hexmage when they have a Swords to Plowshares in hand?

Despite both of these plans being different, they actually work quite well with each other. Beseech the Queen can find either part of the combo, Dark
Ritual speeds you up, and Reanimate can bring back a fallen Vampire Hexmage (which can protect itself from Swords to Plowshares). Beseech the Queen even
facilitates a third combo out of the sideboard!
