With the format becoming more and more grindy, where are all the Deathmist Raptors? Today’s deck is a mish-mash of a few of Standard’s previous decks.
Den Protector and Deathmist Raptor provide the core of this strategy, although Kolaghan’s Command also assists in grinding. Hangarback Walker holds the fort early while Thunderbreak Regent, Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker and various Kolaghans win the midgame in the skies.
Draconic Roar, Kolaghan’s Command, and Murderous Cut are some of the best removal spells in the format. You don’t necessarily need to kill everything, just buy enough time to win the race. Thankfully, your big animals provide a quick clock.
I think there’s a good chance that a midrange deck in the style of Jund Monsters can be successful in Standard at the moment. The combination of big fliers, discard, removal, and staying power sounds good to me.
