Daily Digest: Hot And Fresh Out The Kitchen

Don’t forget that Bring to Light was good enough to get GerryT’s attention when the format started, and now, it’s got his attention again for #SCGPHILLY! So what does this one do differently? Gerry invites you to find out…

I’ve had some success with Bring to Light, but I put the deck down immediately afterward because I didn’t like a lot of the things about it, namely the
clunky manabase and the lack of early plays. Being a reactive control deck also didn’t look like it was a good fit for Standard.

Asobius went down a more proactive path, ala Kent Ketter, and finished a heartbreaking tenth place in a Magic Online PTQ. He used the Mantis Riders that
Kent did, which I like, but he also added Woodland Wanderer. Having some additional creatures to attack planeswalkers is a welcome addition to the deck. If
Mantis Rider dies, at least it got a hit in, but I can’t say the same for Woodland Wanderer.

However, it is very big…

Which is where Chandra’s Ignition comes in. In a midrange matchup, this is your breaker. Any time a card is truly disgusting in Limited, it probably means
it should be at least considered for Constructed. Chandra’s Ignition is often a Plague Wind with upside, and that type of effect seems great considering
how creature-heavy Standard is. You could potentially use it to kill two planeswalkers also!

I think the addition of more red cards is where the Bring to Light deck needs to go, as cards like Fiery Impulse and Crackling Doom are kind of where you
want to be right now. Being able to Bring to Light for Chandra’s Ignition is icing.
