Daily Digest: Confusing Ale

GerryT has no idea what to make of this one! Catch your opponents offguard with this hate-fueled build for #SCGPHILLY tomorrow!

Despite looking at this decklist several times, I’m still not quite sure what’s going on.

It’s very Deadguy Ale-like, but it’s one that relies more on permanent-based disruption instead of discard. I get that much, but the card choices are confusing. Maindeck Containment Priest? Parallax Wave? Engineered Plague? Miser’s Shriekmaw? It honestly looks like this deck exists for a metagame that doesn’t exist. Either that, or this combination of cards end up covering a lot of bases against the Legacy metagame.

One might say that budget concerns lead to playing this deck, but aside from Verdant Catacombs over Marsh Flats, this deck doesn’t seem to be missing any pieces. It’s got the full set of Wastelands and plenty of other expensive cards.

The thing I like the best about this deck is the use of Ancient Tomb. It accelerates into cards like Lingering Souls and Engineered Plague in game 1, but post-board, you get Chalice of the Void and Trinisphere to harass combo decks with. Overall, I think Ancient Tomb is one of the most underplayed cards in Legacy.

What does everyone else think? Is this deck just as strange looking to you?
