Daily Digest: Bubble Hulk

Some seasoned players still have nightmares about Protean Hulk. A comeback for the big fellow seems pretty inevitable. GerryT finds the first traces of the deck in years, and he’s sharing it before #SCGINVI’s $5,000 Modern Premier IQ!

This deck is nearly a decade old, but it might be good enough to make a comeback. The goal is to put a Protean Hulk in the graveyard, bring it back into play with Footsteps of the Goryo, and once it dies, win the game. If they have a Path to Exile, you’ll want a Viscera Seer in play to make sacrificing it easier.

From there, you can search your deck for Viscera Seer and Body Double (copying Protean Hulk), sacrifice the Body Double, and search for Reveillark and Mogg Fanatic. From there, you can sacrifice Mogg Fanatic for a point of damage, sacrifice Reveillark to return Mogg Fanatic and Body Double (copying Reveillark), and repeat the process for infinite damage.

By using a mill engine alongside things like Noxious Revival and Reclaim, you’ll be able to find your combo pieces in no time. You’ll be using a lot of cards just to put cards in your graveyard, and then you’ll lose more cards with Izzet Charm and Noxious Revival, so I wouldn’t expect to be able to break through a wall of counterspells. Things like Boseiju, Who Shelters All and Defense Grid could help with that though.
