Occasionally, there comes along a deck that takes pieces from various strategies, mashes them together, and makes me say, “Why didn’t I think of that?” In
this case, we have a piece of Shaun McLaren’s Kiki Control spliced with Michael Bonde’s W/R Splinter Twin deck featuring Blood Moon.
No one likes playing with blue cards anyway.
At its core, this is a W/R midrange deck that aims to control the board. However, some games are won with Blood Moon and some are won with the Restoration
Angel / Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker combo. Most of the games are an old fashioned grind-fest. Cards like Lightning Bolt and Anger of the Gods are format
staples, we just haven’t seen them used in this type of shell before.
Overall, I like this deck a lot. I recommend some Arid Mesas, but they aren’t entirely necessary. The sideboard is pretty wild and could likely use some
tuning. Other than that, I wouldn’t mind signing up for a Modern tournament with this deck.
