Daily Digest: A New Combo Ascends

GerryT highlights the most glamorous deck of the last Open Series weekend, giving innovation credit where it’s due before #SCGIndy’s $5,000 Standard Premier IQ.

Jeskai Ascendancy wasn’t the only Ascendancy to finish in the money at SCG DC. It wasn’t even the only Ascendancy to be used in a combo deck!

I managed to catch Joey Page annihilate Brad Nelson on camera with Temur Ascendancy, but Mark Toepfner did the archetype proud with an 11th place finish at SCG DC. Both of their decks appeared to be Mono-Green Devotion shells that double splashed for the powerful enchantment.

With it in play, you can go infinite with Temur Sabertooth and a mana accelerant that generates more mana than it takes to bounce, replay, and activate it. With infinite mana you can bounce a Genesis Hydra infinite times, putting your entire deck into play if you want, or use an Eidolon of Blossoms to draw infinite cards.

While the combo isn’t easy to pull off, the deck showed a certain resiliency. Joey managed to fight through Brad’s quick Ugins, and his deck looked pretty good even without the combo.
