His/her newest Modern deck utilizes Mantis Rider and Lightning Angel as fast, undercosted threats in an otherwise normal Jeskai shell. Lightning Bolt,
Lightning Helix, and some countermagic are all present, but you also see cards like Dispel that you otherwise wouldn’t in the maindeck of many Modern
decks, which helps protect your threats. Against some combo decks, it’s also quite potent.
When you have Mantis Rider and Lightning Angel for threats, you don’t really care about the ground, so things like Tarmogoyf and Young Pyromancer can often
be raced. You also get to use Pyroclasm out of the sideboard, which you wouldn’t be able to do otherwise with something like Geist of Saint Traft.
Of course, no blue aggro deck would be complete without some card-drawing to make sure you don’t run out of gas. Treasure Cruise is the obvious answer and
Smaland even has four Thought Scours to power it (and the Snapcaster Mage).
There are some manabase snafus, as Flooded Strand is better than Polluted Delta in this deck, but they are close enough. Aside from that minor issue, this
deck looks awesome!
