Round 1
Round 2
Round 3
Round 4
Round 3 was a useful match to lose in the way I did. Magmatic Chasm is a common, so you and your opponents will often have access to it, so it’s good to see just how punishing it can be for these slower black/green decks specifically.
I stand by the reasoning on my transformational sideboarding in Round 4–my deck was too slow, and my opponent’s deck was too well-positioned in the lategame. I need Ojutai as a trump, and I felt like I could position myself to be a better deck for the blue/black mirror knowing that was what was happening. Unfortunately, I think the time pressure in sideboarding stopped me from building that deck correctly. Glint, Butcher’s Glee, and Silumgar Butcher should have been any of my 2-4 mana creatures, at the very least. Misthoof Kirin definitely should have been in my deck.
Overall, I liked my build and my deck, but I did see it lose to two structural weaknesses: Magmatic Chasm, and a good blue control deck. I wish I’d had time to sideboard correctly for the fourth match (this could have been accomplished by using the deck editor to prepare what I wanted while my clock ticked in game 1), as I think that could have been an awesome match.
