Daily Digest: Modern Circa 2012

GerryT is going back to the future! Grixis Delver is the default best Delver deck in Modern right now according to many, so what’s the best way to hate on that strategy? Gerry opens the history books!

Sometimes old favorites get outclassed or metagamed against to the point where they are no longer viable. Oftentimes, what was old becomes new again once new cards get released or the metagame becomes less hostile. Well, for better or worse, Delver of Secrets appears to be out in full force in Modern.

Grixis is the default best Delver deck (and possibly best deck) in Modern right now, but why not Jeskai? This deck was all the rage a few years ago, albeit with Steppe Lynx and a little more aggression, but this deck looks great as well. If your Delver opponents are relying on Thought Scour to fuel their graveyard for stuff like Tasigur, the Golden Fang and Gurmag Angler, why not cut ’em off at the pass with Jotun Grunt

Three Serums Visions is a bit odd considering it’s what this deck wants to be doing. I would also consider some Gitaxian Probes for some added information but also because a deck like this definitely wants the option of playing a Snapcaster Mage on Turn 2 with value. There’s also those Jotun Grunts that could use some food.

Geist of Saint Traft is one of the biggest threats in Modern that very few people seem to be playing. If there was something that would get me away from Tasigur, it would be Geist, and this seems like as good of a shell as any.
