Who doesn’t love a midrange deck with a combo finish? Jamal Greenidge certainly does, as he used the Eldrazi Displacer / Zulaport Cutthroat / Brood Monitor combo to place third at a recent Invitational Qualifier.
This deck packs a lot of powerful Abzan cards, such as Siege Rhino and Abzan Charm, but also splashes a fourth “color” with Thought-Knot Seer and Eldrazi Displacer. Painlands provide colorless mana, but you can also use Pilgrim’s Eye to fetch up a Wastes if you need it.
Eldrazi Displacer is a solid card on its own, but its ability is very nice here. Not only can you “blink” a Siege Rhino for extra value, but you also have Catacomb Sifter and Pilgrim’s Eye to blink if you have nothing else to do with your mana. My favorite use for Eldrazi Displacer is on offense. The creature will always come back tapped, so you can use it to clear blockers out of the way.
In a sense, this deck is very similar to Four-Color Rally. It’s a midrange deck that can win on its own merit, but occasionally it will piece together the combo and finish the opponent off out of nowhere. In the meantime, you’re a rock solid Abzan deck, which isn’t the worst place to be.
