Another day, another draft! Honestly, I’m starting to get a little tired of Aether Revolt as I’m now somewhere around 100 drafts in. Luckily, Modern Masters 2017 is just around the corner, so for now, let’s take a look at an Aether Revolt pack:
Pack 1, Pick 1
The Pack:
The Pick:
I’ll start off by saying both of these cards are very good, and I am happy to start a draft with either of them. So regardless of what I end up taking, this is good.
Aethergeode Miner is everything every white deck in this format wants. It’s a cheap revolt enabler that attacks, and sometimes blocks, very well. That’s really all there is to the card, as the generation of energy, while a nice little bonus, isn’t all that relevant in the white decks I have ended up drafting. Overall, very solid card, but nothing to hit home about.
Gifted Aetherborn, on the other hand, completely shuts down many decks in Limited until it is removed from the battlefield. It can pull you back from behind, and it also wins many races when played early. I have been extremely pleased with Gifted Aetherborn, and there aren’t too many rares or uncommons that I take over it. Hence, this thing is going to be my pick out of this pack!
Pack 1, Pick 7
The Picks So Far:
So we have an absolutely spectacular W/B Hidden Stockpile deck a-brewing here. Hopefully the next pack has something to contribute.
The Pack:
The Pick:
I’m just going to disregard Renegade Map entirely, although this is somewhat late for that card. If you haven’t seen a deck with multiple Hidden Stockpile, they get exponentially better in multiples (well, maybe capping off after something like the fifteenth copy). This pick isn’t close, and my deck is going to be insane. W/B may be my least favorite archetype, but when it’s the version with multiple Hidden Stockpile, it’s one of the most powerful and most fun decks in this format!
I honestly wish I could show you a more interesting pick, but this entire draft pretty much was just on autopilot after pack 1 pick 1. Sometimes that’s how the cookie crumbles, but at least this cookie is a good one.
