Apparently the person to my right didn’t like Blue very much, because there aren’t many cards I take over either Draining Whelk or Riftwing Cloudskate. The fourth pick of the draft was pretty interesting, because although I am a pretty big fan of Scryb Ranger, I think that the second is much worse than the first. It’s a much worse trick when your opponent knows about it. The Mangara however indicates that White is open, and I could draft quite a good Momentary Blink deck with Mangara, Riftwing Cloudskate, and Draining Whelk in the first four picks. After that I didn’t see much White though, and could’ve paired my Blue with any other color, or just played Mono-Blue.
Game 1 of round 1 my opponent didn’t have much action beyond the Errant Ephemeron he suspended on turn 2, which I bounced with Riftwing Cloudskate then Temporal Eddy. Game 2 I fell way behind early, but was able to stabilize the board by flipping Hermit. My Ancestral Vision went off the next turn putting me ahead on cards as well as on board, even though I was way behind on life. Eventually I won by attacking a few turns in a row with a few flyers, losing one to his Flickering Spirit each time.
I had a pretty good draw for game 1 of round 2, but got blown out by his turn 3 Prodigal Pyromancer for my Serendib Sorcerer, and Voidstone Gargoyle for my suspended Viscerid Deepwalker. Game 2 I flipped Thelonite Hermit on turn 5, and Draining Whelked his Pardic Dragon on turn 6. Game 3 he was lacking Red mana, and couldn’t beat a Whelk on his Flickering Spirit.
