Pick 1: Pestermite or Changeling Titan? Being a Shapeshifter, I find Changeling
Titan so hard to kill, it’s immune to the two best common Red removal cards
and the best two common Black removal cards.
Pick 17: Leaf Glider or Changeling Titan? I felt my curve at two mana was doing
fine, with double Squeaking Pie Sneak, and two Kithkin Daggerdare to pump
the fear guys. Instead of accelerating into larger bodies, I was hoping to
play some early creatures for pressure, and then back them up with the 7/7s.
Pick 18: Assuming we’re going to play with all cheap creatures, including
Facevaulter, then Incremental Growth is amazing.
Pick 31: Very weak Black and Green cards except for Wren’s Run Vanquisher. I had
many Changelings, and some Elves, so I went for it.
Picks 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 41: And what started as a Goblins deck is now an Elves
deck.
Thanks to a lot of Changelings, the only non-Elf creatures are two Kithkin
Daggerdare and Vigor. The Incremental Growths are still mvp in this deck.
Round 1 played against Brett Blackman and his Blue/Black deck
Game 1 I started with Woodland Changeling and Kithkin Daggerdare. He
stopped the beats with Nath’s Buffoon. Turn 5 he tapped for Fathom Trawl, I
played two Gilt-Leaf Ambush at the end of his turn, the first clash sent a
land to bottom, the second left Incremental Growth on top. I was holding
Vigor, but it seemed better to pump them first while he was tapped. I played
Growth, attacked and pumped one with Daggerdare, then I played Vigor and he
conceded.
Game 2 was an epic battle. His deck was quite decent with Wydhen, Fathom
Trawl, double Pestermite, and double Peppersmoke, splashing for Summon the
School, Harpoonist, and Judge of Currents. He drew the last two White cards,
first the Harpoonist, but could only cast them off a Springleaf Drum, so
that slowed them a little, which gave me some opportunities to sneak damage
through. My draw included lots of Elves, and dealt him 20 before he fully
stabilized.
Round 2 I played against Red/White Giants.
I had the usual Elves draw, but he killed my Branchbender, so suddenly, my
army started looking really small facing Blind-Spot Giant and friends. Then
he played Mirror Entity, and I died shortly after.
Game 2 I was on the play, and managed to attack for six damage with a pair
of creatures, then play Changeling Titan. He killed it with Consuming
Bonfire. I played Elvish Branchbender and something else, and then
everything died to Thundercloud Shaman, except Woodland Changelling. I
managed to survive because I won the clash on Gilt-Leaf Ambush, killing two
giants, but once again had no outs agains Mirror Entity. Even though I got
him at 7 or 8 life, I couldn’t force enough damage through that.
Such a good card… the funny thing is, the draft previous to this one which
Draftcap didn’t save, I had two Mirror Entities. I opened one Pick 1, and opened the
other Pick 16. It is nice!
