P1P1 Scuttlemutt over Ashenmoor Gouger – I really wanted to take Gouger here but Scuttlemutt is the safest pick that keeps all options open and it’s guaranteed to make the maindeck.
There were definitely some other debatable picks which I’ll be glad to talk about more in the forums. This draft certainly didn’t go well for me. You can be pretty sure that when you have to bench two early pick Puncture Bolts that you’re not doing so well.
Round 1 my opponent was mono White and the games were long drawn out and boring. Game one I cast Soul Snuffers five times along with Razorfin Abolisher and Banishing Knack. This was barely enough to stop his offense which was powered by Light from Within. Game 2 I conceded on turn 5 to Oversoul of Dusk. Game 3 I stabilized at 6 life when he ripped Light from Within to push his Raven’s Run Dragoon past my defenses in two turns and eventually finish me off. My draw in game 3 was excellent except that I drew almost all lands after my opener. My opponent’s deck was far better than mine and I cast Blight but it didn’t even slow him down.
Until Monday…
