The first episode of the Reality Fracture story kicks off with Tamira’s creation in the Echoverse by Jace, who now goes by The Theorist, with him explaining to her that he is not her god or father. Jace tells Tam that there is something she will need to do one day. He leaves her with the knowledge of “You’re a person in progress” as the flashback comes to an end.
Picking up in the present, Tam is on the Hexhaven campus in the Echoverse and seeing images of her friends from her life at Strixhaven. Abigale and Lluwen tell Tam she is a liar and that she is “just parts.” Tam lives with the memories of her actions at Strixhaven, where she captured Jadzi, the oracle and delivered her to Jace.
Tam meets with Jace in his sanctum to find he is battling a version of himself. Jace throws the alternate version into a portal, but shows battle scars — this isn’t the first time he has had to defeat some version of himself. Following the fight, Jace lets Tam know that he will have to kill Jadzi so that they can observe the oracle’s consciousness return to its home plane of Arcavios as an Archaic. By watching this and learning from it, Jace will be able to fuse the two planes into one, having the Echoverse overwrite the multiverse where the Phyrexian invasion, Eldrazi, Nicol Bolas, and all the other horrible things happened.
Tam then goes to the dungeons and speaks with Jadzi, who tells her Jace’s plan is a fool’s errand. Tam questions how Jadzi can know that, but Jadzi simply replies that she is an oracle. Jadzi also tries to bargain with Tam, saying she can show Tam where to find what she is looking for in this new life, but Tam leaves her to check in on Professor Vess, who is also a prisoner now.
Professor Opal, who is Liliana’s Echoverse counterpart, has been torturing Vess with Jace, but we don’t know exactly what information they are trying to get out of her. Vess can tell Tam is a new creation and knows Tam feels bad for betraying her real friends from Strixhaven. Vess scolds Tam and curses Jace and his poor handling of his Echoverse.
Tam leaves the dungeons and wanders the campus, wondering her purpose now that she has already completed her task of capturing Jadzi. She speaks with Jace telepathically, and Jace tells her he doesn’t know what her purpose is going forward. The part of Jace that knows what he had planned for Tam is gone. He tells her that her task is completed and he will not force Tam to stay “here.”
She ponders the idea of a missing part and wonders what it is she’s supposed to have but does not. It’s not a heart. It’s not really a soul. But she feels for half of herself, and her fingers grasp at air. Jadzi. The original Multiverse. Her friends. Her duty to a future without suffering demanded betrayal. So why does she still feel empty?
As Tam goes to sleep following her talk with Jace, she knows she needs to find the part of her that matters. She leaves her dorm to find what is missing.
