White Border And Future Sight Frames Return In MTG Mystery Booster 2

The sequel to one of Magic’s most popular Draft sets has been revealed

Gavin Verhey, Principal Magic Designer at Wizards of the Coast (WotC), gave a first look at Mystery Booster 2 during his AMA panel at Gen Con this past weekend.

Originating back in 2019, the original Mystery Booster: Convention Edition was a huge hit with the Magic community, providing a Chaos Draft experience like no other. Now, the long-awaited sequel has finally been revealed, and brings with it more outlandish Playtest cards, “old favorites,” and “nostalgia nods to the past and future.” Below you’ll find a few examples of what you can expect to find in Mystery Booster 2.

Unlike the original Mystery Booster set, Mystery Booster 2 will have its own dedicated expansion symbol.

First-time White Border Printings

Love them or hate them, white-bordered cards return in Mystery Booster 2! Some of Magic’s most iconic cards will receive this treatment, including Ponder, Deathrite Shaman, Path to Exile, and many more.

Future Sight Frame

2007’s Future Sight introduced a frame that grew into a fan-favorite. Cards like Counterspell, Echo of Aeons, Underworld Breach, and more have already been spotted with this unique frame treatment. Cards with this frame have also been confirmed to come in traditional foil as well.

Speaking of Future Sight, check out this textless Future Sight frame Memnite! So far, this has been the only card revealed that is textless, but more are likely to surface soon.

Digital Only Cards

Prior to the advent of MTG Arena, there were only a handful of Magic cards that existed only in a digital space. 12 of these cards came from the Magic MicroProse game in 1997, and the other 10 from Magic’s Japan-exclusive Dreamcast release in 2001. While MTG Arena has since made digital-only cards a common theme, they’ve never been printed physically. In Mystery Booster 2, several formerly digital-exclusive cards will be making their tabletop debut, with Velukan Dragon and Mardu Outrider having been confirmed.

Test Cards

Magic sets often pay homage to their predecessors, but Mystery Booster took that to a whole new level with the introduction of “Test Cards.” These cards are designed to look like pieces of paper stuck onto other cards, and often bring Un-set levels of shenanigans. With tons of references to popular Magic content creators, inside jokes, and memes, these cards are a big part of what made the Mystery Booster experience so popular.
