Shoma Yamamura won the fifth Flesh and Blood Pro Tour with Uzuri, Switchblade on Sunday in Amsterdam.
Yamamura, of Japan, reached the Top 8 as the No. 7 seed by going 6-2 in Classic Constructed and 5-1 in Part the Mistveil Draft. Yamamura is the owner of the first exclusive Flesh and Blood local game store and started playing in Outsiders, learning how to play with Uzuri — the often overlook Assassin hero. Yamamura stuck with his original hero and was just one of two players in the field of 395 to sleeve up Uzuri.
The tournament was loaded with heroes from Part the Mistveil, with Zen, Tamer of Purpose pacing the field even after recent bannings removed some of the power from the Mystic Ninja. The Top 8 followed the Day 1 meta pretty closely with three copies of Zen and Nuu, Alluring Desire being joined by a single Uzuri and Levia, Shadowborn Abomination.
Yamamura cut through the Top 8 bracket, knocking out Shing Tsang and Gabe Sher, both on Nuu, before the final match against Bartosz Ziemba on Zen. Yamamura put on a masterclass in the finals, showcasing his favorite hero under the brightest lights to become the first Japanese Pro Tour champion in Flesh and Blood history just months after Part the Mistveil debuted as the first set to be printed in Japanese. Now Yamamura gets to defend his hometown of Osaka at the World Championship on October 31-November 3.
