Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has released their weekly MTG Arena update article including details on the ability to favorite basic lands, the next Arena Open, all the cards coming in Alchemy: Phyrexia, and more!

Preferred Printing Feature Finally Here

Years after releasing, MTG Arena finally has the technology to allow players to favorite certain versions of cards to be used when building decks. Not only can players select a favorite basic land, but any card with multiple printings can have a favorite variant.

Cards with multiple printings can be expanded to view them all, then a favorite can be selected. Drafters rejoice for not having to swap basic lands!

Other tips for navigating and picking favorite versions:

  • The glowing highlight around cards identifies them as part of a its printings.
  • If you don’t have a preferred printing of a card set, your decks will default to the latest printing available in your collection.
  • If you have fewer copies of a card’s preferred printing available than the number you use in a deck, the remaining copies in the deck will default to the most recent printing.
  • Limited game modes will use printings from their specific card set, but preferred printings of basic lands will be used. For example, if the Limited mode’s set includes Opt, you’ll see that set’s printing of Opt rather than your chosen preferred printing, while your basic land preferred printings will appear in your deck.

The next 30-card MTG Arena-exclusive set, Alchemy: Phyrexia, releases today. These cards are not legal in Standard or Explorer, but will be legal in Alchemy, Historic, and Historic Brawl. They will also be available in Alchemy: Phyrexia Premier Drafts starting this afternoon. Check out all 30 cards below:
