Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has announced a major change to format legalities, beginning with Magic: The Gathering’s next set — Phyrexia: All Will Be One.

Previously, players would have to wait a full week after a set’s prerelease events to use those cards in sanctioned, tabletop tournament play. Starting with Phyrexia: All Will Be One on February 3, cards obtained during a set’s prerelease events will immediately be legal for tournament play.

According to WotC, this change was made to address the the ongoing disconnect between digital and tabletop releases, as “digital play has not made any distinction between when cards are available and when they’re tournament legal for some time.”

Phyrexia: All Will Be One is scheduled to release on February 10. View our official preview gallery.
