Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Bajo, check out this undercosted flying Vampire from Innistrad: Crimson Vow — Bloodvial Purveyor!
Bloodvial Purveyor at first glance is a four-mana 5/6 flyer with trample. If this was ten or more years ago you’d be ready to read a handful of drawbacks, but that isn’t the case with this rare Vampire.
Whenever an opponent casts a spell, that player creates a Blood token.
Whenever Bloodvial Purveyor attacks, it gets +1+0 for each Blood token defending player controls.
Alright, so there is a slight downside. Opponents get to create Blood tokens whenever they cast a spell while Bloodvial Purveyor is on the battlefield, but the tokens also power up the Vampire when it attacks. The question will be how easily can an opponent find an answer for Bloodvial Purveyor or more importantly, how easily can an opponent leverage the Blood tokens to find whatever they might need thanks to Bloodvial Purveyor?
There’s a mana gate on each Blood token so opponents can’t filter through their deck for free with them, but the card filtering will come back to bite you in some spots. Of course, the opponent might also have Blood token payoffs, so the downside might end up being bigger than it appears on the surface. That said, when you have a five-power flyer with trample breathing down your neck, how much time do you have to rummage away cards to find an answer?
What do you think of Bloodvial Purveyor? Is this a real deal threat for Vampire or black decks or will it be a liability to have on the battlefield?
