Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and IGN, check out a new blue spell-based legend coming in Innistrad: Midnight Hunt — Lier, Disciple of the Drowned!
One thing nonblue players love in Magic is the phrase “can’t be countered.” But what if the phrase shows up on a blue card?
Spells can’t be countered.
Each instant and sorcery card in your graveyard has flashback. The flashback cost is equal to that card’s mana cost.
Lier doesn’t just make your spells uncounterable, but all spells. So this card isn’t going to work particularly well in a deck full of counterspells, but instead a more proactive blue deck. Then there’s that whole other ability…
Making Past in Flames a permanent ability as long as Lier is on the battlefield is quite powerful. Of course, five mana is more than four and you have to keep Lier on the battlefield, but if the stars fall in line, you got yourself a stew going. The next question is which spells and how many are you going to need to get access to for Lier to be busted?
What do you think of Lier, Disciple of the Drowned? Does this card have applications in Standard and non-rotating formats? Or will Lier be a powerhouse in Commander instead?
Innistrad: Midnight Hunt is currently scheduled for release on September 24. View our official preview gallery.
