Welcome back to *checks notes* Adventures in the Forgotten Realms preview season! Despite being part of a set designed for the Standard rotation, Treasure Vault is the kind of card that Modern Affinity players have been waiting a long time for.

While Treasure Vault seems relatively tame on the surface — tapping for colorless mana and generating Treasure tokens — the reason it’s so important for Affinity decks is because it joins Darksteel Citadel as the only other Modern-legal artifact land that enters the battlefield untapped. Modern Horizons 2 did introduce other new artifact lands, but they all enter the battlefield tapped, which is a drawback that Affinity decks typically don’t have time for.

Affinity has been a staple in the Modern metagame for many years, but hasn’t dominated in the higher tiers since the banning of Mox Opal. With the addition of Treasure Vault however, it may be time for a resurgence in the archetype.

So what do you think of Treasure Vault? Do you see any impressive implications for this card beyond the boost it gives Affinity decks? Let us know in the comments!
