Blake Rasmussen and Steve Sunu were joined by Mike Turian on Weekly MTG to talk about Double Masters and preview a few cards from the freshly announced set.

Turian, a principle product designer and the product architect for Double Masters, discussed some new details about the set like the count of rares and mythic rares being 112 and 40, respectively. For reference, a normal set has 53 rares and 15 mythic rares. He said there will be a VIP edition that is in a similar line to Collector Boosters, and there would be at least one new-to-foil printing in the set. And while each box comes with two borderless showcase cards as box toppers, boxes of Double Masters will not come with a specialty buy-a-box promo.

On top of the news about the set, Rasmussen, Sunu, and Turian previewed three more cards from Double Masters to go along with Doubling Season and Blightsteel Colossus from this morning’s previews.

Atraxa, Praetor’s Voice will appear for the first time in booster packs in Double Masters and get a borderless showcase card variant. Kaalia of the Vast and Mana Crypt also get special treatment, with Kaalia getting new art from Scott M. Fischer and Mana Crypt’s box topper illustration done by Ron Spencer.

Double Masters will get a full, two-week preview season sometime in mid-July. Read more about the announcement of Double Masters.
