Meet The Core Set 2021 Shrines And Sanctum Of All

Core Set 2021 introduces six more shrines, including five-color payoff.

Much like the cycle of Hondens from Champions of Kamigawa, Core Set 2021‘s cycle of Sanctums care about how many Shrines you control. You want to control as many Shrines as possible, but they’re legendary enchantments that require you play one of each color to get the best payoff. Naturally, if you’re playing all the colors to take advantage of as many Shrines as possible, you get the ultimate payoff in Sanctum of All.

At the beginning of your upkeep, you may search your library and/or graveyard for a Shrine card and put it onto the battlefield. If you search your library this way, shuffle it.

It’s only fitting to have a bunch of Shrines in your Sanctum of All deck, so this five-color enchantment will dig them up for you. And if for some reason the Shrine you need has already been dealt with, it will bring it back from your graveyard as well.

If an ability of another Shrine you control triggers while you control six or more Shrines, that ability triggers an additional time.

Once you get all the Shrines on the battlefield it’s time to go off. While you are limited to the six Shrines in Standard, in Historic and older formats you can have eleven firing off per turn. Additionally, Sanctum of Calm Waters and Sanctum of Shattered Heights allow you to discard extra copies of Shrines you draw for value.

The Hondens were fan favorites during their time; can the Sanctums rekindle that love today or will the shrine deck only live in meme form in Historic?
